Dear ladies and gentlemen!

    Annual (from 1994) Symposium "Compressor Users-Manufacturers" — the unique for the eastern Hemisphere international conference dedicated exclusively to interests and experience of the compressor Users. The program is completed exclusively by presentations of industrial specialists from companies producing or applying compressors. That makes the Symposium the optimal forum for exchange of practical experience and problems of operation, revamp, acquaintance to new compressor techniques, and also to establish direct contacts between Users and Manufacturers. The basic world manufacturers from tens countries take part in the symposium work, as well as from all industries applying the compressor techniques.
    I am glad to inform that after the year break caused by purely internal organizational reasons the Organizing committee renews practice of annual carrying out of the Symposium. As usually, Symposium-2010 will take place on the basis of the Saint-Petersburg Polytechnic University with the Compressor Department as the organizer – the scientific sponsor. The scheme of carrying out of a scientific and cultural part of a symposium remains traditional.
    The Organizing Committee would be pleased if you would include your participation and representation of reports in plans of your activity for 2010 and could inform us on your decision. Exact conditions of participation, terms of representation of reports and the approximate working program will be close to the Symposium – 2008. It will be brought to your attention in January, 2010. To inform better the persons who were not taking part in Symposium activity earlier, I apply the short information on the Symposium previous activity

    ORGANIZED BY THE COMPRESSOR DEPARTMENT of the Saint-Petersburg State Polytechnic University with the support of the Compressor and Pneumatic Association, the All – Russian Association of Refinery Senior Engineers and the International Refrigeration Academy.

    GENERAL
    Compressors are applied in all kinds of industry and transport. Their effectiveness and reliability define an economical soundness of production lines. The level of pressures, speed of rotation altogether with a complicated character of operation, creates a serious challenge to compressor users and manufacturers. Understanding it, the Compressor Department organized in 1994 the first meeting, where speakers and members of Organizing Committee were exclusively specialists and leaders of industry - final users and manufacturers. The themes of reports were oriented to interests and experience of final users. The idea and experience of the first Symposium-94 were anonymously supported by the national and international compressor community. The following annual meetings in 1996 - 2008 altogether with the first Symposium-1994 attracted more than 1970 participants from many C.I.S., Western and Eastern countries, numerous companies - users, attracted the majority of the world important compressor manufacturers.
    Among the organizations - final users OAO "GAZPROM" must be noted for his bold financial and organizational support from the very beginning of the meetings. The decisive role of the support and participation of the companies - manufacturers from the list of sponsors below is evident as well.

WORKING LANGUAGE. TRANSACTIONS

    The working language of Symposium was Russian for the benefits of participants - final users, who were 100% Russian speaking.
    The Symposium Transactions (42 papers, 245 pages in 2008 ) are published in Russian with the English translation of titles and list of content and distributed among the delegates. The electronic version is available.
    The foreign participants were helped by interpreters - volunteers when necessary.

THE PARTICIPANTS of the SYMPOSIUM in 2008

    There were 140 specialists (more than 2000 in 1994 – 2008) from 35 cities and 70 companies and institutions from Russia, Austria, France, Germany, Japan, Lithuania, Switzerland, Ukraine, USA.

THE WORKING and CULTURAL PROGRAM in 2008

    The working program was realized in the SPU SPb Main Building. Nineteen reports were represented at plenary sessions May 28…29. Eighteen papers were presented at the two sections’ sessions May 29.
    The companies Siemens AG, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Man Turbo AG, ZAO "REP Kholding", OAO NPO "Iskra" deployed mini-exhibitions that attracted attention of numerous participants.
    The participants have made personal acquaintance and discussed the problems of mutual interests in an informal atmosphere during the evening meetings in the Scientists Club cafe (May 28) and in the restaurant "ARGENT CENTURY" (May 29).
    The participants accompanied by skilled guides have made the autobus excursion around Saint-Petersburg city visiting Peter & Paul fortress with its museums (May 30).
